MOROCCO EARTHQUAKE

SEARCH & RESCUE

On Saturday, September 9, 2023 Aerial Recovery responded to the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck in the High Atlas Mountains, with the epicenter 72 km (45 miles) southwest of Marrakech. Aerial Recovery responded by deploying a team of 3 members, 1 of which is part of the Heal the Heroes program and 2 volunteers who are doctors, able to provide medical expertise in the field. The mission included medical care and reconnaissance to reach isolated villages that are inaccessible by conventional transportation. During the team’s time in the mountains, they provided casualty evacuations for 145 affected locals and assessed 9 villages for infrastructure stability and medical concerns.

Mission Impact Report:
– Medical assistance provided to approximately 145 locals with 1 CASEVAC
– 9 village assessments completed
– Humanitarian aid distributed (including diabetes medicine, antibiotics and other various other medicines needed for general treatments) (Children’s toys were also given out)
– Critical village needs assessments passed to the Global Diversity Foundation and coordinated for additional aid for those most in need
– Tents set up for survivors who had been displaced and had no other place to sleep
