EMERGENCY RELIEF DEPLOYED FOLLOWING THE WORST HURRICANE IN BAHAMAS HISTORY
On September 1, 2019 Hurricane Dorian made its landfall in the Bahamas as a category 5 hurricane with wind speeds reaching close to 200 mph. Dorian stalled over the Bahamas for nearly 3 days causing widespread damage totaling $3.4 billion.
Our team of volunteers and disaster experts quickly developed a plan to provide emergency aid in some of the worst hit areas- Abaco and Grand Bahama.
Through our Bahamas Stronger initiative we were able to raise nearly $10,000 in less than 10 days to purchase emergency supplies, food, and medical equipment to take to the Bahamas. While boots on the ground we were able to host a medical clinic with our medical professional volunteers to provide first aid for the locals.
We were also able to get into remote areas that had not yet received aid to repair shelters and give out food, water, and solar lights from our partner, Watts of Love.
One of the best ways we could help the Bahamas during this time was talking with the local people to hear their stories and let them share with us their needs for their country so we could share it with the world by using media as a force for good. The news only showed the devastation, but we knew that if tourists thought there was nothing left that it could severely impact the country’s economy long-term. With this in mind we created the Stories From Abaco vlog series.
