HURRICANE HELENE
September-October 2024
SEARCH AND RESCUE AND AID DISTRIBUTION
On September 28, 2024, Hurricane Helene hit Western North Carolina, leaving catastrophic damage in its wake. Thousands of people went missing, 1.2 million were left without power, and washed-away roads stranded countless families in the mountainous region. Aerial Recovery spent over a month on the ground, utilizing volunteers from the Heal the Heroes program in partnership with local volunteer groups and nonprofits like Save Our Allies and Global Empowerment Mission to address the devastation.
During the response, Aerial Recovery coordinated the delivery of 10 airplanes and multiple trucks loaded with life-saving supplies, including medical kits, food, water, and propane. The team conducted 4-5 daily missions via ground vehicles and 3-4 missions daily via helicopter, ensuring that critical aid reached isolated and stranded communities. Heavy equipment operators were organized to clear debris and repair roads, hundreds of trees were removed from homes, and numerous lives were saved through immediate rescue efforts and medical aid.
Aerial Recovery’s team played a vital role in delivering relief to families in dire need, ensuring essential supplies reached those stranded in the hardest-hit areas of Western North Carolina.
